Machine learning

Use of computer systems that can learn and adapt without explicit instructions, by using algorithms and statistical models to analyse and draw inferences from patterns in data.

A rock or sediment that contains one or more valuable minerals.

Seismic survey

A geological surveying method which involves measuring vibrations through the Earth’s surface – a little like a medical ultrasound.

X-ray Diffraction

A non-destructive method used to assess a mineral’s structure, based on how X-rays scatter and break up when aimed at the mineral.

X-ray Fluorescence

A non-destructive method used to assess the elemental composition of a mineral, based on how the mineral ‘fluoresces’ when bombarded with X-rays.
